Fundraising at Wild Oats & Notes Music Festival - A History
By: May Korobko
Wild Oats and Notes Music Festival began in 1999. No food vendors were on site at this time. The Tofield Girl Guides were very active in the community and fundraising for attending large international camping events. Fran Schultz approached me as one of the leaders, to offer us an opportunity to provide food at the festival. The festival also supported various other charities such as Tofield Historical Society, VOCAL so an agreement of donating a portion of our profits was made.
At this time our church provided a pancake breakfast as a fundraising venture.
When I retired from Guiding and the leaders did not wish to continue this commitment, I approached the festival to ask if our church could take over the concession. The arrangement of donation back to the festival was continued. As the festival grew and other vendors also came on board, a more formal agreement system was put in place.
The festival continues to support us with power, refrigeration, storage, a venue and assistance with set up and tear down and great music!. Over the years, we have continued to support each other to our mutual benefit.
This year we made over $2600.00 - our best year ever. Our team of volunteers cooked and served 32 dozen hamburgers, 10 dozen Kubie burgers, 10 dozen hot dogs and 170 green onion cakes.
Volunteers are always needed so watch this newsletter in 2026 (Wild Oats and Notes happens every 2 years) for your opportunity to join in the fun!
